One of the main reasons why communicators don't use visual elements in their standard communications is much as they could is due to a lack of expertise and formal training. Communication is a key part of any profession, yet it is often neglected in favour of technical training.
That said, it really isn't that hard to develop effective visual elements. It can be done easily with a fairly minimal amount of computer skills. Are we all just too lazy to do it? Are we worried that our colleagues will criticise or not understand the visuals? Is there simply not enough time in our busy schedules?
